America’s oldest archdiocese is blessed to have Archbishop Edwin O’Brien, a true and faithful shepherd, as its new ordinary. Read about it here. Our prayers go with him!
His Excellency is a good friend of FOCUS, and by his invitation our missionaries serve both the Air Force and Naval Academies. He has also striven to meet the spiritual needs of Catholics in the armed services (who often go painfully lengthy stretches without the aid of the Church’s priests or Her sacraments) by initiating a peer-to-peer faith formation program (sound familiar?) called Catholics Seeking Christ. Check it out.
Now, for a little bit of history:
The first US prelate and bishop of Baltimore was John Carroll, cousin of Charles Carroll, the only Catholic to sign the Declaration of Independence. Charles also risked the largest amount of personal wealth and was the last of the signers to go to his eternal reward.

I’m so excited! I only met Archbishop O’Brien once while he was my bishop, but I liked him a lot.

I’m excited for Archbishop O’Brien, but I have to admit that I’m disappointed for me! I was really excited about serving at USAFA with him as our Archbishop. I rest in confidence that an equally virtuous man will follow him as Archbishop for the Military Services!

Wow! That’s some cool news. I enjoyed having Archbishop O’Brien as my bishop at the Naval Academy and I even got to meet him when he came and spoke at a large group even. A true shepherd and am amazing man. Now instead of him being half an hour away in DC he’ll be half an hour away in Baltimore! Now is the exciting wait for a new military archbishop.
